ExtraCare Statement

The following statement has been issued by ExtraCare regarding the fire in London.

Anna will be raising this at the Street meeting next week to answer any concerns but If anyone has a query, please speak to a member of staff.

The ExtraCare Charitable Trust statement on London fire

Our thoughts are with all of those who have been affected by the tragic incident in London.

Following any major external incident such as this event at Grenfell Tower, we monitor and consider any fire and safety recommendations as part of our health and safety strategy. This is to ensure we maintain and continuously improve high safety standards.

The safety of our residents, staff and visitors is our primary concern and fire safety is our highest priority.

Our residents’ buildings are protected through smoke or heat detectors in every apartment and throughout our communal areas. These detectors are linked to staff and also to the fire services who will respond automatically if necessary.

We construct our residents’ apartments to resist and contain fire. Since 2015, all our new buildings are being fitted with sprinkler systems.

Given the age and potential frailty of many of our residents, we are advised by the fire services that they should remain within their apartment when an alarm is triggered. Evacuation will only take place if required and as part of an organised process led by staff.

We provide regular and comprehensive fire training to all our staff, and there are trained members of ExtraCare staff on-site with our residents 24 hours per day.
